Puppy & Foundations - This 2-hour workshop will focus on setting your puppy up to form good habits and building a strong bond. We will cover socialization, bite inhibition/gentling for puppy biting, and how to teach foundation skills for good manners. Don't wait, because your puppy is forming habits now! It is much easier to set up for good behavior early than to try to fix it later.

Basic Canine Life Skills & Manners Virtual Class

Beginner level

Basic Canine Life Skills & Manners Class - This class will focus on setting your puppy or dog up to form good habits. We will cover foundation skills for good manners, such as eye contact for permission, polite greetings, leash skills, go to a place, sit/down-stay, and come when called. This class is for puppies, newly adopted dogs, and even older dogs who need some manners refinement.
$200 for Four weekly 1-hour virtual classes
$550 for Four Weekly 1-hour virtual classes PLUS 12 once-a-month REAL WORLD classes

Puppy Social Skills Class

Beginner

PUPPY SOCIAL SKILLS CLASS: This class is for puppies up to 5 months old as of the start date. This class, based on Dr. Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Puppy Training Curriculum, is largely off-leash.  Puppies interact with one another, and learn impulse control & bite inhibition.  We teach them to listen, respond to directions, and offer good behaviors off-leash, right from the start!  This includes introducing the puppy to different people and dogs, forming a strong bond, and a good family dog by setting clear house rules and setting your puppy up to form good habits.  

Six Week Class is $250. Puppy Bingo Cards (PDF) and a 1-year membership in our Google Classroom are included.

Basic Canine Life Skills

Beginner

This class is for puppies and dogs 5 months old and up.  This is a beginner-level course that strengthens the relationship between owners and dogs by creating a common language while setting a foundation for all future learning.  There is a concentration on the five basic skills: Heel, Sit, Down, Stay, and Come.  We also cover good manners for the family pet, addressing common problems such as barking, chewing, jumping, and stealing. Class size is EXTREMELY LIMITED (4-5 dogs, especially in Monroe).

Six Week Class is $250. Basic Canine Life Skills Booklet (PDF) and a 1-year membership in our Google Classroom are included.

Refined Canine Life Skills

Intermediate

This is an Intermediate level training class for dogs who have completed at least some basic skills training, either in a class or privately, with The Refined Canine or elsewhere. The focus of the class is refining good manners with distractions. For those interested, we will utilize the ten stations of the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam. The CGC is the first step for all recognized therapy dog programs. We build our 'good dog' skills in a fun & motivating format, utilizing games and real-life situations. Class size is limited, register early! This is a six-week class.

Refined Refresher

Intermediate

This class is for dogs who are friendly and have had some prior training. Refine and refresh your dog's reliability walking politely on a leash, greeting people, coming when called, and more. We will practice success with increasing distractions. This six-week class is $250.

Tricks & Games

Intermediate

This class is for dogs who are friendly, have taken a Basic skills class, and are looking to continue training in a fun way. We will be working from the AKC Trick Dog list of tricks, as well as introducing cognition games and dog sports exercises. Most dogs will earn an AKC Novice Trick Dog title (or higher). We will break down each trick into easy-to-follow steps and troubleshoot along the way. This six-week class is $250.
